Children and Bike Peoria Members get half-off!

During this 2-hour workshop, you will learn ready-to-apply know-how to properly maintain and use your bicycle. We will cover the basics of bicycle maintenance and mechanics with a primary focus on brakes and shifting. We will be working with a large variety of bikes, so this workshop will be great for you if you fit one of these categories:

– You are a total newbie to bike mechanics, and you are looking for a way to get started.
– You have been riding for a while now, and you want to learn how to get the most out of your bike.
– You are an expert mechanic, but you just got this newfangled contraption from Japan and you know you can figure out how to put that hexagonal gear thing back together if you can just figure out where that orange springy part goes!

***This workshop will be very hands on and has a limit of 6 students. Please register to reserve your spot!***

Participants are encouraged to bring their own bikes. If you don’t have a bike, one will be provided by the Bike Peoria Co-op. Many bikes have different styles of wheels, brakes and shifters, so a larger variety of bikes means a better class for everyone!

Wednesday May 21

7:00 pm – 8:00 pm
Ride of Silence
1222 E Kingman Ave, Peoria Heights, IL 61616, United States

This is the largest one-day event held globally to honor bicyclists who have been injured or killed while riding. The national website is here: http://www.rideofsilence.org. We have an opportunity to participate locally in this national ride.

6:30 – 7:00 PM: Ride Registration and Armband Distribution
7:00 – 7:15 PM: Welcome Briefing and Advocate Statements
7:15 – 7:45 PM: Ride of Silence and Convocation

Participants are encouraged to visit local businesses on bicycle following the ride.

The ride is *FREE* and all riders must be wearing a helmet – no exceptions! Participants are asked to follow the rules of the road and refrain from speaking during the ride in honor of those who have died on their bicycles. We ask that all riders be able to maintain a pace of 10MPH so that the group doesn’t get too spread out. Police escorts will be present to maintain a safe event along Peoria’s streets.
